Chlamydia Tests - Chlamydia Testing

Chlamydia/Gonorrhea NAAT (Nucleic Acid Amplification Technology) Testing

One of the most widely used chlamydia tests is the nucleic acid amplification (NAAT) test. During the testing process, the DNA of chlamydia bacteria is isolated and amplified through heating and cooling, making the disease easier to detect. This test is more sensitive and specific than swabbing and therefore can identify more positive specimens.

A normal result of the test means that no chlamydia DNA has been found. However, it may be necessary to perform more STD tests to determine the cause of the symptoms.

An example of this method of chlamydia testing is the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.

  • PCR Positive - In this instance, you most likely have a chlamydia infection, though false positives do sometimes occur, and should begin treatment with antibiotics immediately.
  • PCR Negative- This means that chlamydia bacteria was not detected in the given sample. As with the positive result, there can sometimes be false negatives. If your test returned a negative result and you continue to have chlamydia symptoms, it is recommended that you speak with your doctor for further testing.

Obtaining a confidential chlamydia test is as simple as contacting our counselors to schedule a test at one of our local testing clinics near you.
